Following a live press conference this morning, the nominations for the 39th César Awards, French cinema’s Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma made the much-anticipated announcement of the awards nominees after what many critics have described as another bumper year for le Cinéma français.

After a turbulent couple of weeks of avoiding the press, Julie Gayet will surely take some solace from her nomination as Best Supporting Actress in legendary French director Bertrand Tavernier’s political comedy “Quai d’Orsay“. Another point of interest is that she also finds herself in the same category as Marisa Borini; mother of former First Lady Carla Bruni.

The list, however, is dominated mostly by two films – “La Vie d’Adèle” (Blue is the Warmest Colour) with eight nominations and “Les garçons et Guillaume, à table!” (My, Myself and Mum) with ten. Another film that has surprised many in the number of nominations was “L’Inconnu du Lac” (Stranger at the Lake) with eight also and Roman Polanski’s “La Vénus à la Fourrure” (Venus in Furs) with seven nominations.
