Following a successful run last year, Waterford is the place to be all this week for a taste of all things French

Running all this week until Holy Saturday, the French cultural festival “Let’s French… Again!” is bringing a flavour of France to the lives of Waterford residents with a mixture of events revolving around wine, food, cinema and general joie de vivre.

Festival manager Clotilde de Fréin has put together a programme that kicked off in typical French style with a glass of wine on Saturday at the Central Library in Waterford. Introducing the programme of the coming week and of those of the Waterford/Saint Herblain Twinning Committee, Waterford Mayor Jim D’Arcy and Alliance Française delegate Philippe Milloux presided over the evening’s events, which were sponsored by Europe Direct.

This evening sees the showing of the Robert Guédiguian’s award-winning 2011 feature “Les Neiges du Kilimanjaro” (The Snows of Kilimanjaro) at the Garter Lane Theatre.

The rest of the week sees a packed programme of events, including more superb films and a diverse range of activities including children’s fun, poetry, theatre and cuisine, culminating in the showing on Saturday night of Michael Haneke’s extraordinary film “Amour” (winner of the Palme d’Or in Cannes last year and one which sneaked in amongst all the English-language films to contend for Oscars this year).
