Market Guide: Finistère – Sizun

Situated roughly equidistant from Morlaix and Brest, the little village of Sizun is a typically pretty stone-featured Breton market town that has a very Celtic familiarity about it but seems packed with French produce for its size.

It’s also packed with listed monuments, as a cursory glance at its own Arc de Triomphe on the main square will indicate.

It’s a place that doesn’t see many tourists and is arguably all the better for it. In any case, you’re not more than a 20-minute drive from the coast and for anyone on holiday in France, it can make an agreeable detour on market day; one that feels a bit more in touch with the real rural Brittany than the coastal resorts.

The market takes place throughout the year at Place de la Mairie every Wednesday from 09:00 to 13:00. There are just 10 stalls in all, selling mostly food, including a good representation of organic food from the local terroir.
