The world’s most glittering film festival is back! And Tootlafrance brings you daily photographic journal of all the fun

This year sees the 68th edition in very summery weather conditions. The mercury was in the late 20s as the photocalls began from mid-morning for some of the big films this year.

Chief among them was the opening film “La Tête Haute”. The eagerly-awaited movie starring veteran beauty Catherine Deneuve. The 71-year-old is one of France’s best-known actresses, having made her cinematic debut back in 1957 as a teenage star in “Les Collégiennes”.

In any case, Deneuve – probably best known for her roles in the 1967 film “Belle du Jour” and the classic 1992 colonial-era “Indochine” – showed that a septuagenarian can still cut quite a style on the red carpet. Dressed in a floor-length black-and-fuchsia long-sleeve gown, complete with a pair of simple black pumps, she wowed the crowds and it was a case of déjà-vu with photographers scrambling to get the best picture, just as they have been doing since the mid-60s.
