Amongst the big films of the fourth day of the film fest by the Med was American film “Sea of Trees” by Gus Van Sant. The great director turned up on the photocall in defensive mode armed with a camera. Meanwhile, his leading actor Matthew McConaghey was sporting a back-woodsman look.

Matthias Schoenaerts frolicked with Maryland co-star Diane Kruger. The French film directed by Alice Winocour was very well received, with Schoenaerts showing that while he has recently become the darling of English-speaking cinema with three big productions on the trot, he seems to reserve his best work for French cinema.

Veteran Italian director Nanni Moretti made a return to Cannes as director of a new film Mia Madre (My Mother). The former Jury president and former recipient of the Palme d’Or.

On the Red Carpet meanwhile, there was plenty of action too, with 77-year-old cutting a dash, alongside Naomi Watts and Sienna Miler.
