Tapping into the francophile market in the South-East, the inaugural “Let’s French Again” festival kicks off this coming Saturday in Waterford city.
It’s a celebration of all things French, encompassing literature, cinema, art, gastronomy and whatever you’re having yourself. Starting at 16:00 in the Central Library with the opening by Waterford’s Mayor Pat Hayes, the many events lined up in its eclectic menu include wine and food tasting at the L’Atmosphère, La Bohème and the Athenaeum House Hotel. For wine lovers, the serious night out to learn, taste and perhaps get a little tipsy is Monday at the Bishop’s Palace Café. For those who love cinema but are a bit weary of the American-only diet, there are three showings on the big screen at the Garter Lane Theatre during the week: “Elle S’appelle Sarah” (Sarah’s Key), starring Krstin Scott Thomas on Friday; “Astérix at the Olympic Games”, starring Gérard Depardieu and Alain Delon for Saturday matinee; “Le Hérisson” (The Hedgehog) with Josiane Balasko on Saturday evening.
Sal’s Bar becomes a French-only musical venue on Thursday night, while children’s workshops running through the week will give the younger ones a taste of the world’s second language of communication.
The festival finishes up on Saturday in spectacular style with a French classical music concert sung by locals Concordia and Ad Hoc Chorale.
