Nantes Fathers Protest in Solidarity

More than 70 people turned out to protest yesterday morning in the city of Nantes in solidarity with the fathers' rights organisation SVP Papa and the famous "Papa in the crane" Serge Charnay.

Mr Charnay (pictured above) hit the headlines both in France and all around the world when he occupied a large crane in Nantes for more than three days in protest at the legal system allegedly depriving him of contact with his six-year-old son.

Since then, he has become something of a sensation in France – a cause célèbre for estranged fathers throughout the country seeking better access to their children.

The incident has rekindled fierce debate over the airways on the issue of parental access and in keeping with the tit-for-tat nature of these situations, feminist associations are planning a counter demonstration in Nantes.
