Power cut leaves hundreds of skiers left high, dry and cold in two ski stations in the Alps
For over an hour, hundreds of skiers were temporarily trapped at the ski resorts of Morillon and Samoëns on Sunday after a power cut that was the result of the overheating of two EDF (Électricité de France) transformers.
The breakdown, which became apparent at the end of the morning, lasted for three hours altogether in the smaller resorts close to the Swiss border.
The skiers were finally rescued by gendarmes and firemen, who evacuated them from their lofty traps so that they could continue to ski in comfort and the electrical supply was soon restored.
