Market Guide: Ile-et-Vilaine – Dinard

Dinard-1.jpg

Located on the famous Côte d’Émeraude of Northern Brittany, Dinard’s combination of gorgeous sandy beach, dramatic coastline, mild climate, Victorian/Breton seaside resort atmosphere and abundance of pretty architecture have made it a highly popular resort whose star peaked just before the Second World War.

As is the case with so many seaside resorts, it was the British who really put Dinard on the map during the latter half of the 19th century, building many of the jaw-dropping villas the decorate the promontory and outskirts of this idyllically-situated town.

There are two main markets in this commune of 10,000 souls. Les Halles Couvertes de la Concorde on the bright Place Crolard house a daily market from 07:00 to 13:30. This market has a mixture of great local produce – fresh and cooked – laid out under protection from the elements.

The same square, meanwhile, accommodates an open market. This has a lot less emphasis on food products, with clothing, souvenirs, and traditional Breton crafts in abundance. It takes place three times a week from 08:30 to 12:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

There’s plenty of free parking (500 spaces) on the square, although during July and August, you need to be there damn early if you want to grab a spot.
